Kennedy celebrated the only way she knows how...with gusto. On Thursday, we welcomed Aunt Marissa and her boyfriend to the celebration. On Friday, we welcomed Grammy to the party and Kennedy officially turned one at 2:59 pm. Then on Saturday, Kennedy was overwhelmed with love from family and friends at her birthday party. One thing is very clear: Kennedy is so, so, so loved.
Height/Weight: Well, our doctor's appointment today was an adventure. Long story short: we're switching pediatricians. That being said, I THINK her height was 31.5 inches long and her weight was 23 lbs and 14 oz. I didn't get a checkout sheet.... I'm going to call tomorrow and verify stats and I'll fix them if need be.
Eating: Kennedy is such a good eater. I'm so thankful for that. Her super favorite things are cheese and spinach. Yep, spinach. It causes a happy dance in the high chair. She pretty much loves eating anything and everything except: avocado, yogurt, and sweet pickles. Dill pickles are delicious, sweet pickles are awful, terrible things. She's still nursing when she pleases. She knows the sign for milk and will answer you when you ask her if she'd like milk with the milk sign if it's a yes and either a head shake for no or nothing at all.
Sleeping: No picture of a trophy on the blog yet means that it hasn't been awarded. Someday, friends, someday. She's still snuggling with me at night and taking two naps a day in her crib. In recent days her afternoon nap has been really long. It's been nice. I'm not calling it a trend just yet. She gets up between 6 and 7 usually and goes to bed between 7 and 8. Naps fall where they may. Typically, it's about every three to four hours.
Playing: She can walk about 5 or 6 steps without help, but definitely prefers holding on to someone's hand. That way you can walk FAST and without falling. She loves it. Crawling is practically a thing of the past...unless you're chasing a ball. Then it might be worth it. She loves playing with balls. She loves putting thing into containers and taking them out again. Loves playing outside in her walker or just running up and down the driveway or playing at the park with friends. She is super aggressive with friends....she REALLY wants to hug and kiss them. And she does it in attack form. Cute for a moment, and then it's a problem. We're working on it. She loves all variations of "I'm gonna get you" and it's the easiest way to get her to giggle.
Clothes: 18 months and 24 months. And today....she wore 2t pants. Whoa kid, whoa.
Language: Mama, Dada, Mommy, Daddy, Dog, hi, bye ("die") uh oh and her very favorite word, "dat." It means "I'd like that." It also means "Please label that object for me." It also means "take me that way." In fact, it's such a useful word that she's all but stopped using the other words on a regular basis!
Still just two teeth on the bottom.
And here come the pictures! Part one of her birthday post will only include her actual birthday (Friday, October 4th) Her birthday party pics from Saturday will be in Part 2. (When Aunt Marissa is in town there are many, many pictures :-))
Hm, Mom put this poofy dress on me today. Must be something special going on...the last time I wore this it was Easter and the dress almost touched the floor....
What's that you said? It's my birthday? I'm turning one?
Seriously?!
Well then, we better break out the balloons! (As a side note, both grandmothers and myself were terrified that at any moment one of these balloons would pop and K would never recover. Thankfully, all balloons remained in tact.)
Grammy. Do you SEE that awesome thing?!
Ah! They make them in Carolina Blue!!!
Grammy, did you hear the phone ring?
Oh hi Daddy! Did you hear I'm one today? Yep, balloons and everything.
"Dat."
Concentrate. I can create a tower with the blocks Miss Susan gave me. I just know I can.
I think it might need one more...
Cupcake? What do you mean cupcake?
Alright, I'll try it.
Hey, that's pretty good!
Icing? Oh yes! I remember that yummy stuff from when Mommy was decorating the cake. Give it to me Mommy! I love icing!
Now everyone say "yummmmmm"
Before I head to bed, I better vacuum up my crumbs.
And then I'll say goodnight to Nutty.
And get hugs from my Grandmommy (and one last thing identified..."dat" is a flower)
And then it was time for the birthday girl to get some sleep. After all, she had a big party the next day!
