Yesterday we had our first real medical issue since Kennedy's arrival.
Andrew had just returned from being away for two weeks and could not WAIT to see Kennedy when she woke up. He happily took her out of bed, changed her diaper and headed downstairs to play. As he went down the stairs, he slipped and they fell. He managed to keep her from hitting the stairs....mostly.
When they landed, she was, of course, quite upset, but after some serious Mommy snuggles and a few rounds of "Itsy Bitsy Spider" she had calmed down and we thought we were in the clear. Andrew was covered in carpet burns, but Kennedy seemed to not have a mark on her. We put her down for a nap (because calming your Mommy, Daddy and Grandmommy down is hard work...) and ate breakfast.
She woke up a little while later and nursed. Nutty was on the floor and as per usual wanted to say hi to his sister, so I sat her down on her feet to stand and say hi to him. When she put her left leg down on the floor, she lost it. From that point on, any time we tried to apply any pressure downward on her left leg she cried. We could move her ankle, knee and hip and she could grab her feet while she was laying on her back, so we thought maybe it was just hurting from the fall but we should call the pediatrician to be safe. They wanted to see us at 12:20.
We went to the pediatrician and after a very short visit, she said we were going to need x-rays to be sure that she was okay. We were herded off to Sentara Lake Ridge. The x-rays showed a torus fracture of her femur. It's basically a little bump off the side of what should be a smooth bone. We were taken from radiology to the ER to see a doctor. The doctor wasn't quite sure whether or not she should splint the leg because of her very young age. After all, she's not walking or standing on her own yet so we could just keep her off of it? She wasn't sure but wanted to error on the side of safety so we got a splint and hopefully today we will follow up with an orthopedic doctor. I pray that they will tell us that it's healing beautifully already and that we don't need that splint.
She was quite the trooper and apart from being quite angry that people wouldn't leave her alone to nap, she was pretty content.
This morning she's playing happily and acting as if nothing is wrong...and wondering why her mom wants so many extra snuggles....

Poor Kennedy!!!!!!!! :( :( :( I hope she feels better soon and that the bone heals quickly!!! Love from Claire and me! Also, I hope Ace is alright! :)
Of course my marine brother can move my baby niece out of harms way!
Aww! Hope all the Eckerts are doing all right after that adventure...I can only imagine how much booboo for baby means stress for mom and dad! And when Kennedy is older and sees these pictures, the story needs to start with, "So what had happened was..." :) Hugs and love to you guys.
So much love sent to you all; what stress and anxiety this kind of situation brings. Thank goodness for the super-power of love from her dad and mom and hopefully the playful Kennedy continued. We'll be thinking of you all and sending quick healing thoughts! <3
Well it's kind of the cutest splint ever...so there's that. BUT, so sorry she got a boo-boo. Yay for lots of mommy and daddy snuggles! Hope it heals super quick!
Yikes! Poor kiddo, and poor Mommy and Daddy! Big (gentle) hugs to all. BK
