A Project!

It's been awhile since we've taken on a big house/yard project. This weekend, with our imported help, we began terracing the hill in our backyard. This hill, you see, will not DO anything on its own. It won't grow things, and it isn't pretty "natural area." So we came up with a plan. And like any good project....we thought about it......

...we planned it....

...we scheduled it...

...we rescheduled it...

...and finally we got 'round to it.

So here's what we've got so far. You can see (kind of) how it will end up looking from this first picture. There will be three planter box tiers when all is said and done.
And now the pictures from below the tier looking back up to the top of the hill.

We started work today on the second level. We're hoping to have it finished by the end of the weekend. So far I'm truly impressed by the results. Please excuse the poor pictures. I remembered to go take them right as the sun started to set tonight.

Now, then. The VERY odd story from this project. So we're outside, working away when I hear a rustling from under the deck. For any of you that are unaware, I have a HUGE fear of snakes. So when I'm outside, moving rocks, playing in the dirt I become hyper aware of noises. So I stop and listen to identify what is making that noise.....and out pop two baby squirrels. Imagine squirrels the size of chipmunks. Right, they're adorable and fuzzy and playing in my backyard. Only here's the thing. They have NO fear of us. At all. In fact, quite the opposite is true. They come running up, scurrying around in between our feet to the point that I get a little freaked. Okay. More than a little. I'm squealing and running up on the deck, leaving Andrew and Ben to fend for themselves against the little devils! So Ben and Andrew do what any brave man would do. They begin using a shovel to move them back whenever they get too close. So we end up having (at any one time) two people working and one person on squirrel patrol. That's right, I was terrified of baby squirrels. Don't judge. They were cute. And definitely evil.

In other news, we're praying for our friends the Pugh's and their little guy, Thomas, who's in the hospital with breathing troubles. We're also hoping that Sara's dog Tucker gets all better soon :-) (okay, we hope that he gets back to his version of normal anyway....:-)) Congrats to Nicole on her new job! I'm pretty sure that's all my random news of the day....and with that....

At least it's not Monday anymore! Happy Tuesday to all of you!

You seem to have selective amnesia as to what we also tried to do with the shovel and the squirrels. I thought a 'squirrel catapult' was an ingenious idea. :-P But it was an excellent weekend project (had a blast helping!). Here's hoping the rest of the project comes together as you want it to!
