I don't know what it is about deployments, but it makes wives start sleeping less and taking on projects that otherwise they would not attempt. When our friend Amanda's husband Sean was deployed, Amanda found herself staying awake way into the night and stripping wallpaper off of her bathroom walls. She also discovered she COULD, in fact, remove the giant bathroom mirror by herself if she was determined enough. (And, believe me, she was determined.) Well, now Sean has returned home, Ace has deployed and the craziness has been passed along to me.
Yesterday I found myself wide awake at 6:10. Normally on a Saturday morning I would be content to lounge, watch some TV, maybe do some lesson planning. Oh no. Not on this Saturday morning. I convince myself that I MUST stay in bed until 6:30 and then Chestnut and I are up. By 9:30 I'm headed to Walmart with Sara. At Walmart I buy a fine collection of new flowers and plants to add to our yard and decide that I'd like to create a new flower bed around the tree in the front yard. By 12:00 I've also decided that the flower beds that exist around my front porch desperately need to be redone but must wait until the summer when more time is available. I take a break from assigning myself new projects just long enough to eat lunch. The second I have swallowed the last of my lunch, I decide I must get started. I begin planting flowers in the planters that hang from the rails of our deck. Then, I realize the back yard needs mowing. TO THE MOWER! After making a phone call to my parents to figure out why I couldn't get the mower to start (give me a break, I've literally never mowed a yard before....shh...I know I'm spoiled) I successfully mow the yard. Then I realize this was a very bad idea....for those of you who know me well....you have realized this too. Because, well, I'm allergic to the world in the spring. So its inside to shower, take out contacts and generally decontaminate myself. But oh no, I will not be stopped. I vaccume, and then begin to put away clothes....but NO! I need another shelf or two. TO TARGET! I acquire two shelves for the closet and then return home to install and finish putting away clothes. It is only then I realize that I have a DESPERATE need to tackle a large and time consuming project during the coming week and head to Lowe's for some help.
This morning I was up by 6:30 and at Walmart by 7:45 and Lowe's by 8:30 to get supplies for this latest brain child of mine. I don't know what it is in the brain that clicks into overdrive when my husband deploys, but it seems to happen just after the good-byes are said. I don't know where the off switch is....that being said, my big project will be revealed to all on Saturday. Stay tuned.

Ashley: Sounds like the everready battery bunny has arrived!
Looking forward to the "revelation"
Ace: Sounds like arrival was quite an adventure! I agree the Maine welcome was awesome - and the call to Ashley made quite a smile on her face!
I'm a little scared about this 'revelation' that will be occurring on Saturday (especially since I will be down there Friday and fear that I will get roped into helping with the final stage of whatever this project is). Ahh well, what are friends for, especially large hulking ones, if not to help with projects. :-) Can't wait to see you and Sara Friday! Should I bring tools? :-P
(in annoying sing-song voice) I know what it is! I know what it is! :) And, you definitely didn't even wait for lunch before putting the pansies in the back planters. Work before food: that's dedication to madness right there... :)
Ashley is nothing if not a little mad. After all, she did put up with four years of Pauper Players (and for some reason kept coming back for more). :-P
Yay big project (and yay for me not having to bring tools down)! Wonderful job on the project Ashley! :-) Hope the gardening with mommy and daddy went just as well. Tell Chestnut to stop digging holes in the back yard!
