3 Months Old!

This week our little girl turned three months old!

Kennedy doesn’t have a doctor’s appointment this month, so we’re unsure about height and weight stats, but according to our bathroom scale (and the SO not official subtraction method), she weighs about 12.6 lbs. Height is a good question. Next month we’ll have official numbers.

Eating- She’s exclusively breastfed and I can officially say I think we’re going to make it awhile longer doing the breastfeeding thing, which makes me SO happy. It was REALLY touch and go there for awhile, due to extreme Mommy discomfort, but things have been better now for awhile and we’re both quite happy with the experience now :-) She eats every two hours most of the time, but occasionally demands to be fed at the one hour mark or the hour and a half mark. We almost NEVER make it three hours without a feeding during the day. She goes for at least four hours at night, but most of the time goes at least 6 hours.  At least 3 nights a week she insists on sitting at the dinner table in one of our laps, not in that silly bouncy chair on the floor.

Sleep- At night Kennedy goes to sleep somewhere between 9 and 10. Interestingly, it seems that if she goes down at 9 she wakes up at 2 to feed, but if she goes down at 10 she wakes up at 4. I have no idea how that works. During the day, sleep is still such a guessing game. She only likes to sleep when she’s being held, but it’s getting a little better. Now I can put her down after she’s been asleep for awhile and she will continue to snooze a little longer. It used to be that she would almost immediately wake up…so it’s improvement! She loves to hold onto a stuffed animal while she sleeps during the day, which is okay since she only sleeps with me. She is now sleeping in the Pack n’ Play at the foot of our bed…after our pediatrician called to tell us that the AAP doesn’t approve of babies sleeping in the Rock n’ Play overnight….  Now I’m sure that it’s probably silly, but when the pediatrician calls your house, it’s a little disconcerting.

Play- We still hate tummy time…so we learned to roll over to get out of it! There is NO chance of her learning to roll all the way to her belly anytime soon because seriously, what would her motivation for THAT be?! She does roll to her side at night in her Pack n’ Play and seems to get a real kick out of the fact that throwing her legs from side to side makes her roll. She loves her elephant toy best because his ears have crunchy paper. The butterfly is her second favorite for the same reason. But a new favorite on the scene is the flowers that William Y. gave her for Christmas….when you hit them, they light up which is SUPER fun. However, if you hit Mommy, she doesn’t light up…which is disappointing after playing with the flowers. She’s got great head control, and has enjoyed sitting in the Bumbo chair a few times. When you sit her in the Boppy pillow on a bed, she tries to use her abs to sit up on her own, unless she gets distracted by the fan. She has discovered how fun it is to chew on your fingers and your hand and does so A LOT.

We’re still using disposable diapers overnight, but we’re working on a system that will let us put cloth in use overnight. She’s still in size 1 diapers, but only because I’m desperately trying to use the last of them up. She is wearing some 3 month clothes, some 3-6 month clothes and some 6 month clothes. Just depends on the brand. She is really too big for her 3 month pajamas, though there are a few that I’m desperately clinging to because I love her in them…

She’s the light of our lives for sure. Here’s why you’re really here…the pictures!

As an added note…I tried to get video of her rolling over to put with this post…apparently when mom turns on the camera to record, it means you should face plant and scream instead of rolling over. So we’ll keep trying….

Bizarre about the RNP, esp. since so many babies sleep in swings and bouncers all night and those aren't for night sleep either. Good thing I'm done or I'd have to break some rules and I hate doing that! ;) A personal call would change my mind for sure! Miss Kennedy is absolutely adorable, love, love, love!

She is sooooooo adorable! And hopefully she will soon learn that, not only doesn't Mommy light up when you hit her, but that it is a bad idea, too ;)

My goodness Kennedy is a such a happy girl<3 (and why not?!) And sleeping with her hand gripping a sweet stuffed friend. Unbelievably precious.
YAY and serious kudos to all for staying tough and powering though the newborn time and moving into such a smiley and maybe even more predictable (ha, I know) stage. You all are so wonderful together!!
