Well the day had its ups and downs for sure, but overall I can’t complain because the ups were SO up and the downs weren’t all THAT down…
We started the day waiting for our Level 2 ultrasound at Potomac Hospital. I was looking at the documents that they were sending me to Radiology with and noticed that I was listed as “Pregnant with Poor Obstetric History.” I pouted and then stated that it was like getting a bad grade in a course and then having the next teacher know about your failing grade! Then we finally got to the fun stuff!
And now for the first embarrassing picture of our daughter…
Twice during the ultrasound today she looked dead on into the picture as if to say, “Excuse me, could you LEAVE ME ALONE?!” We got one of these moments as a “take home.”
I got truly excited after the tech started measuring the baby’s cerebellum. Of course this caused funny looks from the tech until I explained to her that we had lost our first pregnancy due to anencephaly. Then it all made sense. The only problem with the ultrasound today? We have a stubborn baby girl. We tried multiple times, from all different angles, with two different ultrasound ladies to get a picture of her spine to no avail. She would not turn over! We watched as she yawned at our efforts and settled in for a little snooze. Oh yeah, we’re in trouble with this one! Upon learning the baby was a girl, Andrew mentally checked to make sure he owned enough guns and I immediately started shopping for onesies with ruffled butts.
We left the ultrasound and went to lunch at Chipotle. Let it be known that this baby girl does NOT like Chipotle. We went to Babies R Us to register where I no longer had Chipotle for lunch. I think we only managed to register for 3 items in between my trips to the bathroom. Then it was time to go back for our second appointment of the day.
Dr. Weltman was thrilled to hear our news of the day and we have a plan for the next 8 weeks with her. We’ll be going for a normal appointment at 24 weeks to do the glucose tolerance test (oh joy) and then at 28 weeks we’ll have another Level 2 Ultrasound to check the spine and start monitoring that Papp-A Protein nonsense. Dr. Weltman says not to worry about any of it, so we’re going to try to do just that.
We then went to Target to register. I was feeling much better and therefore, more things were scanned to our registry there. I also bought two little girl onesies which I promptly hung in my kitchen upon arrival home so I could stare at them while I cooked dinner…then Andrew moved them to the dining room while we ate…and currently they’re in the family room as I type…nah, we’re not excited or anything…:-)
Thank you for all of your good thoughts leading up to this day and all of the excitement you’ve shown us today. It has made us feel so loved!

Sooooo happy for you too! Little girls are just too cute :) Can't wait to meet her!
so... does Andrew have enough guns?
Andrew will NEVER have enough guns...but I pity any guy who tries to date Baby E. :-P Between Ace and his firearms (and the Polar Bear of an uncle)...yeah...good luck. Congrats to both of you! I am so thrilled for y'all and cannot wait to meet her! :D
I'm so happy for you! Dr. Weltman is my doctor too. She is the delivered Alexander and Julia. She is the best!
I can personally attest that Ace has enough guns! So, so happy to hear the news. I've already knitted two hats for her. I'm sure I'll be putting a ladybug on at least one more. Many blessings!
