Evolution of Dance...Kennedy Style

Kennedy has been taking dance class this summer. I LOVED this idea. Cute ballet outfits. Tiny ballet slippers. Twirling little girls giggling together....you sense what's coming, right? This did NOT start out as I originally envisioned.

Week One:

That was as good as it got. It was worse at times. But definitely not better. There was laying in the floor. And there were a few tears. She was NOT having it. But I did get a leotard and ballet slippers. So there's that.

Week 2: She danced! With Mommy doing EVERYTHING with her. And sometimes she still refused to participate. But at least it was better.

(Sometimes she let Mommy sit while she danced...as long as I still interacted with her.)

Week 3: BREAKTHROUGH!!!! The kid danced like a star. By herself. And even let Mommy leave the room for a little bit. Please notice these pictures are terrible because they are taken from the OUTSIDE of the room! It was fantastic. And wonderful. And we took her to Chick-fil-a for a milkshake after. Couldn't even believe it.

Week 4: "NOOOOO!!! I DON'T WANT TO GO TO DANCE CLASS! I'M STAYING HOME."

Breakthrough was a lie. My dreams of tutus are vanishing in a whir of temper tantrum craziness. I decide that it's just two year old dance class and it's not worth the argument. We stay home.

Week 5: She attempts to tell me again that she's not going. My dreams of tutus have returned and I press forward. I take her in her nightgown to dance class (unhappily) and change her into her dance attire in the parking lot. She runs into the building like its the best idea she's ever had and happily dances away. I'd show you pictures but I was too astonished to take them. She loves dance....

Week 6: Happily gets in the car in dance clothes and dances like a professional. It was princess week.

Please note that my child has to rebel at least a little and REFUSES to wear the princess hat or a crown. She will, however, curtsy.

And twirl.

And jump.

She even let her teacher draw on her precious little face. (WHILE.I.WAS.OUT.OF.THE.ROOM.)

Stretch, your body. Stretch, stretch your body!

Point those toes with airplane arms. (VISIONS OF TUTUS RETURNING!)

She may have missed the point on the balance exercise, but you have to respect her problem solving skills.

Many of their songs involve going to sleep in the middle of them. I wish it was this easy at bedtime.

This is what it looks like when a fish rides a bicycle. I know, I was surprised too.

In her final act of rebellion for the day, she refused to put on her new t-shirt. But she's way cute.

Anyone want to take bets on what happens next week? Yeah, I don't know either. Stay tuned!
